TIP TUESDAY!

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of your home, but it's also a fantastic decorative element! This week, consider how different lighting fixtures can serve as artwork in your home. A unique lamp or a statement chandelier can become the focal point of your room.

Look around your home. Is there a spot that could use a lighting upgrade? Maybe a reading nook, your bedroom, or dining area? Swapping out your light fixtures for a more beautiful option can make a huge difference in the look of your space!

Have you replaced the lighting in your home with something more beautiful? Tell me about it in the comments!

TIP TUESDAY!

This week's tip is all about adding depth and interest to your rooms with texture and layers. Mixing materials such as wood, metal, glass, and fabric can add complexity and coziness to any room.

For example, a wool throw on a leather sofa not only adds warmth but also invites touch and adds visual interest.

🛋️ Try This: Add a new texture to a room this week. It could be a soft rug, a sleek vase, or even a basket.

Snap a pic of how you've incorporated different textures in your space and share it in the comments! Which textures do you love to use in your home?

TIP TUESDAY!

This week, we're exploring how colors can influence the mood and atmosphere of your home. Did you know that blue can evoke feelings of calmness and serenity, making it perfect for bedrooms?

Think about a room you'd like to transform with color. Consider the mood you want to create, and choose a color that aligns with that feeling. I want to hear from you in the comments! What's your favorite color to use in your home and why?

It's Earth Day! Today, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of our planet by making sustainable choices in our homes.

Here are three easy eco-friendly decorating tips:

1. Choose Sustainable Materials: Opt for furniture made from renewable resources like bamboo and rattan, which are not only stylish but also better for our planet.

2. Upcycle: Give old furniture a new life with a bit of paint or new upholstery instead of buying new. It's a creative and eco-conscious way to refresh your decor!

3. Add Some Green: Incorporate indoor plants into your decor. They purify the air and add a fresh, cozy vibe to any space.

Let’s make every day Earth Day by choosing sustainable and stylish home decor! 🌏💖

Here's a simple yet effective tip for making a small space look bigger:

Use mirrors to create the illusion of space. Placing a large mirror on a wall can reflect light and views, making a small room feel larger and brighter.

But here's the twist—instead of just any mirror, choose one with a unique frame that reflects your personal decorating style. It's not just about space; it's about making that space yours.

Check out my recent blog post for more tips on how to make any room look bigger: https://welshdesignstudio.com/make-room-look-bigger/

Do you have a small space that you've made look bigger with a mirror or another clever trick? Share your thoughts in the comments!

melissa welsh interior design

Interior designer, entrepreneur, and DIY enthusiast.

I know what it’s like to want a beautiful home, but not have the decorating skills or a hefty budget to bring your Pinterest visions to reality. My journey started with an outdated house, and a growing passion for updating our living spaces, one DIY project at a time.  Soon enough, I was comfortable with power tools, but decorating our home didn’t come so naturally.

Fast forward a few years, and I decided to make a major career change from Engineering to Interior Design. After getting my degree, I realized that great decorating was a skill that ANYONE could learn, and I set out to translate the “mysteries” of design into practical steps for homeowners. And now, I love sharing what I’ve learned to help homeowners uncover their decorating potential, and transform their home into a stylish haven.
