I was walking the dog this morning and saw a set of bookshelves sitting on the curb with a sign that said, ‘FREE.’ I thought about taking them, because I’m that person who loves to take your free furniture and make it over into something fun. In fact, I’ve been eyeing a couple of furniture pieces in my own house that could use a little makeover. So today I’m sharing some fabulous furniture makeovers in a range of colors to inspire us all. ย Check these beauties out!
No. 1
Take a look at how The Project Girl made over this $19.99 BEKVAM step stool from IKEA. Super cute!
No. 2
I used the same red milk paint to transform this Pottery Barn cube into an industrial toy box a couple of years ago.

No. 3
I love the way Layla from The Lettered Cottage gave an entirely new look to this pretty secretary cabinet with mint-colored milk paint. So cute!

No. 4
This next piece is one of my all time favorite furniture makeovers by Miss Mustard Seed herself. I can’t get over the beautiful hand-painted stenciling she did on this light gray dresser. Talk about a transformation!

No. 5
The bold emerald green color of this dresser makeover by Salvaged Inspirationsย really caught my eye. She layered several chalk paint colors to achieve this look. So much fun!

No. 6
Check out this desk makeover by Wild Sparrow Designs. The painted stripes on the top are a great added detail, and you can’t see it, but the drawers are lined with black and white buffalo check. Adorable!
No. 7
The vibrant peacock blue color of this next makeover is just fabulous! Carrie from Thirty Eighth Streetย did an incredible job transforming this into a glamorous showpiece.
No. 8
I don’t usually think of yellow as my first choice of paint colors for furniture, but this one by Miss Mustard Seed is really beautiful. Not only does it have a great buttery yellow hue, but that stenciling is something special!

No. 9
Painted furniture is perfect for a nursery or kids room! Just take a look at the before and after pics of this sweet little pink dresser by Cuckoo 4 Design.

No. 10
OK, last but not least, is yet another (seriously?) furniture makeover by Miss Mustard Seed. She is a queen of furniture makeovers, after all! This one also happens to be one of my favorite colors from her paint line…Aviary. Such a lovely blue-gray that seems to go with everything. Love it!

If you have an old dresser or table in your home that you’ve been thinking of getting rid of, maybe one of these beautiful furniture makeovers will help inspire you to breathe new life into it with a fresh coat of paint. I’ve used both milk paint and chalk paint, and I have to say that I find chalk paint to be easier to work with. Milk paint and I had a rough start to our relationship…see my very first milk paint attempt (and fail) here. I’ve used it many times since then, and achieved great results. Both milk paint and chalk paint are easy to work with and are perfect for furniture makeovers.
So, theย next time you see that free desk on the side of the road, or the $40 antique dresser at the garage sale, consider bringing it home and painting it.ย All it takes is a little imagination, and you can have a truly one-of-a-kind piece of furniture for your home!
