Hi everyone! Our new woodworking and interior design business is booming, which is a fantastic thing, but it means that my posting frequency has greatly suffered. ๐Ÿ™ ย We are working hard, and having fun, but just so very busy.ย I’m a little quicker to post updates on ourย Facebookย page and Instagram, however, so if you don’t already follow us there, please do, so you can be the first to know about our finished projects and new products!

Today I want to show you a really awesome mudroom that we built for a friend/client. She had such fantastic design ideas, and it was a really fun to watch those beautiful ideas become reality. I refer to it as a Farmhouse Chic Mudroom, because of its simple farmhouse style and unique design features.

Before

Here is a picture of the space before we got our hands on it…just a long, narrow nook off the garage door.farmhouse mudroom before

Adding the Cabinets

To make the space feel a bitย less ‘long and skinny’, we added base and upper cabinets to the back wall.ย Andrew built all of the cabinets, and they were gorgeous – is he good, or what?!? We installed a panel to the right of the base cabinet so that we could also add a bench with cubbies along the right wall at a 90 degree angle.

Painting

While Andrew finished making the cabinet doors and drawer, I painted the frames and bench. The paint color we used is Sherwin Williams’ Westchester Gray (SW 2849). I used Benjamin Moore’s Advance paint, which I prefer to use for cabinets due to its fantastic leveling properties. The only downside is the very long recoat time (16 hours), which adds extra time to the overall project.Gray mudroom cabinets

Herringbone Backsplash

Next, we worked on an adorable herringbone backsplash, which I will elaborate on in a future post. I absolutely fell in love with it, and it just made the entire mudroom once it was installed. We added a butcher block countertop (from Home Depot), which we stained in Minwax Weathered Oak and coated with a matte Polyacrylic. It was definitely starting to come together!

After

When the cabinet doors and drawer were finally ready and all painted, we installed them and added the door pulls and hooks (also from Home Depot). A little trim to hide gaps, some touch up paint, and voila – it was finished!

  1. I’ve never seen herringbone in a mudroom before and I love it! It is such a great accent for a small space. Great job, Team Welsh!

  2. What a great job you did! I love the chevron back wall. I saw your feature on A Stroll Thru Life and just wanted to let you know how impressive and inspiring it is!
