One of my absolute favorite interior design tools is virtual room design, or e-design, as it’s also referred to. Virtual room design is hands-down the most powerful way to show clients a final, photorealistic representation of what their space will look like, while sharing with them my design intent. Most designers still rely solely on mood boards with pictures of furniture and samples of materials, but it can be hard for some clients to visualize the end result. If you are spending good money to work with an interior designer, you want to make sure you understand what the final space will look like before you start purchasing everything, right? That’s where the power of virtual room design comes in.
Let me show you some recent examples I’ve been working on. Here is something you might see for a typical mood board.
See how much more powerful this view is? It feels like you are standing in the room, and could just walk over to one of those chairs.
Let’s take a look at another living room example I recently completed. In this next example, you can see the level of detail that often goes into these virtual room designs with the fireplace tile and cabinetry. But that’s what’s often so amazing about virtual room design! Suppose you wanted to see what a different tile would look like in your room? Or, perhaps you’ve been thinking about painting your room a new color. All it takes is a picture of the space, and virtual room design can show you multiple design options.
You can even see the room from different angles!
Hopefully you can see why I think this tool is so powerful! If you are thinking about starting some interior design for your home, and fear you may not be able to visualize the final result, be sure to choose a designer who can generate virtual room designs for you. That’s the best way to see what your space will look like before ever committing to purchase a single item.
