If you’re gearing up for a kitchen renovation in 2023, you’re in for a treat. Every year, we see new trends emerge in the world of kitchen design and renovation. So, whether you’re dreaming of a full-blown transformation or just a little facelift for your culinary space, you won’t want to miss out on what’s cooking in the kitchen trends department. In this blog post, we’re diving deep into the top 3 hottest kitchen trends for 2023, and trust me, you’ll want to have these on your radar. From color palettes that’ll leave you drooling to fresh ideas for backsplashes, I’ve got the lowdown on what’s hot in kitchen design this year. So, let’s dig in and explore the exciting trends that are set to redefine kitchen style and functionality in 2023!

Trend #1 – Wood & Painted Cabinetry

Wood cabinets are back in a big way in 2023, continuing the trend we’ve been seeing over the past couple of years. These aren’t your honey oak cabinets from the 1980’s…today’s wood cabinets have much more muted tones (not as much yellow and orange to them).

As people are bringing more warm tones into their homes, wood is going to be making a huge statement in every room. Look for wood cabinets to be used in combination with painted cabinetry this year. You’ll also start to see entire kitchens filled with wood cabinets, but they’ll be paired with lots of white to keep things looking bright and fresh.

Painted cabinets will be all the rage in 2023. Though we’ve been moving away from all-white kitchens, look for softer off-whites and beiges, combined with wood accents, to pop up all over your instagram feeds. You’ll also be seeing plenty of colorful cabinetry, starting with smoky blues and greens, and venturing into some brighter jewel tones.

Trend #2 – Slab and Unique Tile Backsplashes

Large-scale slab backsplashes will be a big trend this year, replacing more traditional tile options. A slab backsplash is basically taking your countertop material, and running it up the wall as a backsplash. However, the slab backsplash doesn’t have to match your countertops (mindblowing, I know!)

Slab backsplashes with beautiful organic movement not only give a seamless, clean look to your kitchen, but they are very easy to keep clean. Quartz, marble, granite, and porcelain are great material choices for slab backsplashes.

The other big trend in backsplashes will be colorful tiles, and tiles with a unique or handmade look to them. Zellige tiles will continue to be popular, with their beautiful, no-tile-is-the-same coloring. You’ll also see plenty of patterned tiles, especially geometric patterns, used to inject more personality into the kitchen.

Trend #3 – Countertops with Subtle Character

Quartz will remain a popular kitchen countertop choice in 2023, but look for options with a bit of character to them, rather than a solid color. Countertops with subtle strands of color running through them (aka veining) are the way to go this year.

If you want to go with granite, avoid ones that are too busy with a ton of speckling, as those are starting to look dated. Of course, if you want to go bold, there’s nothing wrong with using a statement granite on your island or backsplash in 2023. You might just want to balance it out with a less ornate choice on other kitchen surfaces.

What’s out for kitchens in 2023?

This list doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful…just that it’s not the way the trends are leaning in 2023. Don’t hate the messenger! 🙂

  • All-white kitchens
  • Gray cabinets
  • Granite countertops that are too busy
  • Plain white subway tile backsplashes
  • Mosaic backsplashes (the ones with lots of little tiles)
  • Open shelving

Now that you know the hot kitchen trends for 2023, you’re ready to transform your kitchen into a space that is both beautiful and on-trend.
