master bedroom paint colors

Have you been searching for the best bedroom paint colors, but are feeling frustrated with the endless options out there? You’re not alone. Choosing the perfect color for your primary bedroom can feel daunting, especially if you’ve been burned in the past choosing a color that didn’t turn out the way you’d hoped. It’s time to cast those worries away, because this post is going to help you find the best paint color for your bedroom. Iโ€™ve rounded up six beautiful paint colors that will help you create a bedroom space that feels like a sanctuary at the end of the day.

What’s the best color for a bedroom?

Your bedroom should feel like a retreatโ€”a place to unwind after a hectic day. The wall color has a lot to do with the overall look and feel of your bedroom, so it’s important to choose a relaxing paint color that will work well with your bedroom decor. Neutral, warm colors are cozy and inviting, and work with a wide range of other colors. Cool colors, like blues and certain greens, are known for creating a sense of calm, which is perfect for bedrooms.

Is it ok to use bold colors in a bedroom?

Yes, bold colors can be used to make a dramatic statement in a bedroom. You can create an accent wall using a darker color than the other walls in the room, serving as a stunning backdrop for your bed. Dark blues and greens are popular colors for accent walls with their relaxing, earthy tones. If you’d like to consider a dark color for your bedroom, just be sure your space has a lot of natural light and avoid colors that are overly saturated or vibrant. Sherwin Williams Silver Strand

One of Joanna Gainesโ€™ favorite paint colors from the popular show “Fixer Upper,” Sherwin-Williams Silver Strand is a light gray-green with a hint of blue. It feels light and airy in a room, and even looks great under artificial light. SW Silver Strand pairs beautifully with white trim and wood tones, giving your bedroom wallsย a hint of sophisticated color. It’s timeless and flexible, working with a wide range of decorating styles and decor. Click this link for a peel-and-stick sample sheet of Silver Strand.

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

When it comes to greige paint colors, BM Revere Pewter is a true classic in the design world! It’s a beautiful blend of gray and a beige that goes with just about everything. Revere Pewter is a versatile paint color that can last you for years, even if you change up the decor and color scheme in your room. It pairs especially well with turquoise, navy blue, and dark greens to create a classic and relaxing look in your bedroom. Revere Pewter is a great choice for a whole-house paint color, as well. Sherwin Williams Sea Salt

Sherwin-Williams Sea Salt one one of my all-time favorite colors to use for a primary bedroom. It’s a pale, gray-green with a hint of blue, that is relaxing, soft, and simply beautiful in bedrooms. SW Sea Salt looks fantastic with warm white or cream accents, and wood tones alike. It’s also flexible enough to use in any room of the house, and with many different styles from coastal to traditional. Sea Salt is a very calm bedroom paint color that can give your space a spa-like, vacation vibe. Shop this link for a sample of Sea Salt.

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray

Agreeable Gray is a soft gray with warm undertones, and a close cousin to Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. It tends to look a little lighter and softer than Revere Pewter on a wall, so if Revere Pewter is too dark or saturated for you, give Agreeable Gray a try. Over the past decade, Agreeable Gray has exploded in popularity due to its balanced neutral tones and versatility. This color goes with everything and is a perfect light neutral for your bedroom or the entire house. Depending on your lighting conditions, Agreeable Gray can look a little more gray or a little more beige, so be sure to sample it in your room before committing. Benjamin Moore Gray Owl

Among light grays, Gray Owl is a go-to color for many designers. Its pale, neutral nature makes it a great choice for a primary bedroom, guest room, or living room. Gray Owl does have soft blue-green undertones, which can show themselves in certain lighting conditions. If you’re looking for light gray paint color for your bedroom that won’t make the room feel cold, Gray Owl could be the right paint color for you. Shop this link for a sample of Gray Owl.

Benjamin Moore Cape May Cobblestone

Cape May Cobblestone is an elegant, medium gray color with a touch of warmth for a calming effect. When it comes to neutral shades (like grays), warm tones will help your room feel inviting, rather than cold. A darker paint color in a small bedroom can often make it feel more cozy. However, if you find Cape May Cobblestone too dark for your taste, consider using it as an accent wall paired with creamy white walls. Or, paint it on the upper half of your wall with white wainscoting on the bottom half for more visual interest.. Click this link to get a sample sheet of Cape May Cobblestone.

How to Choose the Best Wall Color for Your Bedroom

Before committing to a paint color, itโ€™s crucial that you test color samples on your walls first. Paint colors can look drastically different depending on your roomโ€™s lighting, flooring, and existing decor. Hereโ€™s a step-by-step guide to ensure you pick the perfect colors:

  1. Order Samples: Use peel-and-stick samples from Samplize for easy application and removal.
  2. Test in Different Lighting: Check your sample colors at different times of the day under both natural and artificial light.
  3. Consider Fixed Materials and Furniture: Hold samples next to your flooring, furniture, and trim to see how they look together.

Use your samples to determine if you’ve found the best color for your bedroom, or if you need to try a different color (for example, a lighter color or more vibrant color). Check out my blog post on testing paint samples for more tips on how to choose the best color for your bedroom.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I love these types of posts where the paint colors are shown in different rooms/lighting with different decor colors! (Here from Creative Circle… pinning!)

    1. Oh boy! Thanks for catching that! Silver Strand is a Sherwin Williams paint, not BM. I updated the post to correct it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Not paint-related, but any idea where I can find a link to Our Southern Haven to look up that table :)?

    1. Soft white walls (BM Vanilla Milkshake, BM Swiss Coffee), grays (BM Classic Gray, SW Repose Gray), and greiges (like BM Revere Pewter, SW Agreeable Gray) all pair fabulously with navy and turquoise.

  3. Thank you for this post. I am getting new bedroom furniture that is dark grey. I am not sure what color I should paint my walls. Looking for something calming in the room but would make a great compliment to the bed color.
