What are the Undertones of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter?

BM Revere Pewter is often referred to as a greige, which means that it’s a blend of gray and beige. As with any paint color, greiges have their own subtle undertones (sneaky colors hiding under the surface that show themselves in certain lighting conditions). It’s the undertones that can make it so darned challenging to find the perfect paint color for your space.

Revere Pewter is best described as a warm gray, with subtle green undertones. Revere Pewter can look more like a warm gray, or more like a true gray in certain lighting conditions. Every so often it will reveal its subtle green tones, and rarely it can even look slightly cool (with a wink of blue). Most of the time, however, Revere Pewter stays true to its warm undertones and greige foundation, which is why it has been such a reliable go-to color for designers.

The great thing about warm grays, and greiges, is that they typically don’t end up looking too cold in a room. As a designer, I choose warm grays over cool grays most of the time, because warmer grays have a more timeless, inviting nature. They also work well with other warm tones in a home, like wood floors and natural stone.

Where to Use Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter in Your Home

BM Revere Pewter is a color you can use anywhere in your home! It has great depth of color and universal appeal, which makes it a top choice for a whole-house color. It’s great for bedrooms, main areas, your home office, and even kids spaces. Revere Pewter is a also a trendy alternative to white for kitchen and bathroom cabinetry.

If you like the idea of contrast trim, where the baseboards, window, and door trim are a darker shade than the walls, Revere Pewter is a popular pick (see example below). And, if you’re on the hunt for a light neutral for your exterior that is slightly more robust than a white, be sure to give Revere Pewter a try.

Let’s take a look at some pictures of Revere Pewter in action, so you can see why it’s such a fantastic greige, and how truly versatile it can be.

Revere Pewter Bedrooms

In this gorgeous bedroom, you can see an example of Revere Pewter used on the walls, with white trim and ceilings. It’s a great transitional color, and an example of how nicely Revere Pewter plays with the range of other neutral colors used in the room.

Next up is another bedroom painted with BM Revere Pewter on the walls. With the black furniture and white trim in the room, Revere Pewter acts as a beautiful “bridge” color between the two. I love how Revere Pewter introduces a little warmth into the space, so that the rooms feels a bit more cozy and inviting. In this picture, you can also see just a hint of Revere Pewter’s green undertone peeking through.

Here’s a coastal-inspired boys bedroom with Revere Pewter on the walls, with some gorgeous white wainscoting. In this picture, Revere Pewter comes across a bit more like a gray paint color, but you can see that it doesn’t give off a cold or sterile vibe. You can get a similar look in your home with this bedding and this beautiful ocean print.

Revere Pewter Kitchens

Revere Pewter is awesome in kitchens! If you have white kitchen cabinets, and need a wall color that will tie in with stainless steel or granite countertops, a greige like Revere Pewter is perfect. Alternatively, Revere Pewter is beautiful on kitchen cabinets, especially when paired with brass hardware, like in the kitchen below.

Here’s another beautiful kitchen with BM Revere Pewter on the kitchen cabinets. The warm gray veining in the quartz countertops is a perfect match to the greige cabinets. What should you paint your walls when you have BM Revere Pewter cabinets?  Go with a warm white, like BM White Dove, on the walls and trim.

Revere Pewter Bathrooms

Revere Pewter works great in bathrooms because it pairs well with warm tones and gray notes that are so often found in natural stones and granites. It also looks fantastic with white trim, and black or brass accents, like in the picture below.

Revere Pewter on Trim and Doors

Contrast trim has become very popular over the past few years, and Revere Pewter is a perfect greige for creating the look. You can paint your doors, window and door trim, and/or wainscoting with Revere Pewter, and then paint your walls a soft, warm white for a subtle contrast. A few of my favorite whites to pair with Revere Pewter are BM White Dove, SW Pure White, BM Simply White, and BM Chantilly Lace.

Revere Pewter Exteriors

Revere Pewter is a greige I recommended frequently to my exterior paint consultation clients. It’s a great option when you want something a little darker than a white, but still want your exterior color to look light and neutral. I love to pair Revere Pewter with white trim for a subtle contrast, and then use an accent color (e.g. blacks, charcoals, blue-grays, and gray-greens) for doors and shutters. Got red brick? Revere Pewter tends to work really well with a variety of brick tones, as well.

Here’s a beautiful example of an exterior painted with Revere Pewter on the body, and BM Kendall Charcoal on the shutters and front door.

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter Coordinating Colors

What’s the best trim color to use with Revere Pewter?

Ah, that’s easy! Benjamin Moore White Dove is the perfect warm white to pair with Revere Pewter. You can read more about White Dove in this post, and if you want more ideas for trim colors, click here.

Is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter right for your home?

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter is an amazing greige, but that doesn’t guarantee that it’s going to be the right color for your home or a specific room.  That’s why sampling is sooooo important! Lighting conditions vary from house to house, and from room to room within a house. The best way to know if Revere Pewter is right for you is to get samples of it, and test the samples in the space you plan to paint it.

My absolute favorite source for paint samples is Samplize!  The sample sheets are inexpensive, and super easy to move around, so you can see the color in different parts of your room, or in different rooms of the house.. What are similar colors to Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter?

After sampling, you may find that Revere Pewter looks fabulous in one room, but looks a little too gray or dark in another. Here’s some guidance for shifting your greige paint color, in the event Revere Pewter just doesn’t work for you.

What is the best paint sheen to use?

A flat or matte sheen is the best paint finish to use for walls. Flat paint helps to hide imperfections of less-than-perfect surfaces (pretty much all walls) while providing a luxurious matte finish. When it comes to trim and cabinetry, a satin sheen is the most popular finish.

What’s the best Benjamin Moore product to use?

For walls, I prefer to use Benjamin Moore’s Regal or Aura paint.  The Aura line is more expensive, but offers exceptional coverage and color vitality. Their Regal paint is also a great product, at a slightly lower price point. Both of these products will give you great coverage with fewer coats of paint than a lower-quality paint product.

When it comes to cabinetry, trim and doors, I recommend Benjamin Moore’s ADVANCE paint in a satin finish. It’s a premium quality, water-based alkyd paint that offers great durability, and an easy-to-clean surface.
