fall farmhouse decor

I just love Fall, and now that the kids have started school (yippee!), it’s starting to feel a little Fall-like! I’ve seen lots of Fall decor popping up in stores, Pinterest, and Instagram the past couple of weeks, and it got me thinking, “how do I want to decorate for Fall this year?” I love farmhouse style, and as I looked at Fall decor pictures I liked from Pinterest and Intagram, I noticed a few common elements. So, if you’d like to embark on some Fall farmhouse decorating this year, here is a breakdown of the essential elements you will need.

1) Galvanized Metal

I have always loved the look of galvanized metal in home decor, but especially when it comes to Fall. It gives a great rustic, urban vibe that pairs perfectly with other elements of Fall decorating. Take a look at this beautiful DIY galvanized farmhouse bucket!

Here’s another great way to incorporate metal into your Fall decor – the olive bucket. I use olive buckets all year round for potted plants, and to add a farmhouse touch around the house. Here’s a link to a beautiful set of three metal olive buckets that can help your home look fabulous for Fall!

2) White Pumpkins

Of course, you can use orange or green, or any other color pumpkins you like for Fall, but there is something about white pumpkins that just screams “farmhouse” to me.

There’s a few other subtle pumpkin colors besides white in this next picture, but I just had to share it because that painted staircase is so amazing!

3) Plaid

Plaid says cozy, casual, and warm, which is why it is perfect for Fall farmhouse decor! Look for plaids with grays, browns, and/or rust colors for Fall.

4) Wheat

When it comes to Fall farmhouse decorating, you can’t go wrong with wheat! Wheat symbolizes abundance and harvest, and its neutral color pairs beautifully with all of the other rich Fall colors.

5) Candles

Nothing says Fall to me like candles! I don’t burn a ton of candles throughout the year, but when it comes to Fall, I burn them nonstop. I love me a good pumpkin spice candle! I’ll admit, I’m pretty picky about my pumpkin scented candles, and don’t like them too sweet smelling. I’ve found two favorites that smell amazing, and last a really long time. Unfortunately, they also happen to be rather expensive, but their awesomeness is worth it to me! The first is the NEST Pumpkin Chai candle, and the second is the Magnolia Fall candle (which also happens to have a pumpkin chai scent). So fabulous!!

When using candles in my Fall decor, however, I look for simple, decorative white candles, or ones with subtle Fall color.  These are really just for looks, and I don’t usually burn them, so I pick up inexpensive ones wherever I find them.
